New 2TB Time Capsule released

August 14, 2009

Apple have announced a new 2TB (2,000 GB) version of the Time Capsule wireless hard drive. The Time Capsule is a very quick and easy way to backup your Mac(s) using the Time Machine automatic backup system in Mac OS X Leopard which makes it incredibly easy. Most people don’t backup. Period. This is because it’s fiddly/time consuming/can’t be bothered (delete as appropriate). Even though we all know we should do it, most of us don’t and most of the time we get away with it so we continue as we are. One day however, you won’t and you will waste hours trying to recover everything and potentially lose some things for good. It’s not pleasant – I know because it’s happened to me! Get one of these and there’s no need to worry any more. 2TB Time capsule is £379 at the Apple Store and the 1TB Time Capsule is £229.

If backup alone isn’t enough to justify the cost for you, then look what else it does:

It’s a full-featured wireless router so you can use it to setup a wireless Wi-Fi network in your home or office. It also has a neat guest network feature that allows you to give guests access to the internet without giving them access to other parts of your private network, such as your computers, printers, and attached hard drives.

It is a wireless hard drive so you can use it for centralised/shared storage for a number of computers – in effect it’s a wireless File Server. You can also plug printers into it and print to them wirelessly as well.

And it works with PCs, iPhones, Apple TV and iPod Touch as well.

Now what are you waiting for? Get off and buy a Time Capsule at the Apple Store now – you can’t afford not to!
